IP (Ingress Protection) ratings are critical specifications for LED lighting products, especially for off-road, marine, and industrial applications. Understanding these ratings helps you select the right product for your environment.
The IP rating consists of two digits: the first (0-6) indicates protection against solid objects and dust, while the second (0-9) indicates protection against liquids. A rating of IP68 means the product is completely dust-tight (6) and protected against continuous immersion in water (8).
IP67: Protected against dust ingress and temporary immersion in water up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. Suitable for general off-road use where temporary water exposure is expected. Most standard Aurora off-road lights carry at least IP67 rating.
IP68: Completely dust-tight and protected against continuous immersion beyond 1 meter (depth and duration specified by manufacturer). Aurora tests IP68 products at 2 meters for 60 minutes minimum. Recommended for vehicles that regularly ford water crossings or operate in extremely wet environments.
IP69K: The highest protection rating, adding resistance to high-pressure (80-100 bar) and high-temperature (80°C) water jets. This rating is essential for industrial, mining, and construction equipment that undergoes regular pressure washing. Aurora's industrial work light series carries IP69K certification.
